CORRECTING YOUR VISION WHILE YOU SLEEP!
Orthokeratology, or OrthoK, is a treatment where a patient wears a retainer lens, similar to a contact lens, at night while sleeping and removes upon awakening to correct nearsightedness (myopia), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia ("I'm over 40 and cannot read up close") and/or astigmatism in a non-surgical reversible method.
OrthoK lenses reshape corneal tissue (the front of the eye) to allow light to focus directly on your retina and provide improved vision.
OrthoK allows good vision during the day with minimal to no use of glasses during waking hours.
OrthoK is performed on adults and children as numerous studies have shown it may slow or stop the progression of nearsightedness.

Drs. Heather and Kevin Sorensen are excited to bring Orthokeratology to the Space Coast. For the first 20 years of their career, they practiced in Ohio and watched the amazing benefits of OrthoK. Dr. Heather Sorensen actually was their first patient and started OrthoK because of the dryness she experienced while wearing daily contact lenses. Comfortable eyes, great vision and the freedom from vision correction during the day gave her the passion to bring it to their patients. Nothing has been better than giving their patients great vision in a non surgical method with the added benefit of fighting myopic progression. When they decided to relocate full time and purchase their new practice, Coastal VisionCare, in Palm Bay, they knew there was a need in their new community for OrthoK. They are excited to bring this specialty to YOU! |
Although the Doctors use the most appropriate lens for each patient, their lens of choice is the Wave Nightlens. This lens is designed by the Doctors using a computerized program and your corneal shape to design a customized lens for your eyes to give you the most precise treatment. This type of design allows Orthok treatment for patients who may have been told they are not a candidate with other Orthok lenses. |
