Why OrthoK for Adults?
Adults have many reasons for choosing OrthoK. A few of them are:
~ newly presbyopic and always had perfect vision until 40
~ tired of contacts and glasses during the day,
~dryness with contacts,
~ severe risks of wearing contact lenses in water
~ I don't want Lasik done to my eyes

OrthoK for Presbyopia:
Nothing can be more traumatic for our patients who have had perfect vision their entire life and then they hit the 40 year old thing where "my arms are not long enough" and for some the distance vision begins to blur as well. OrthoK has been a great option for you to restore clear vision without having to slip on glasses.
OrthoK for the Active Lifestyle or just tired of having to rely on glasses to see:
Sometimes glasses are just a hassle. By only needing to wear OrthoK lenses at night (and for some patients they do not even need to wear them every night to maintain good vision), a freedom is restored. We have heard many patients tell us they have more crisp vision because they aren't having to look through a lens to see.
Dryness with contacts:
As we age, the eye gets drier in many patients. In addition, many environmental factors dry our eyes out such as air conditioning, fans, and computer use to name a few. To wear a contact lens during the day, the eye must have enough tears to keep a contact lens hydrated so it can give clear and comfortable vision. For those patients having difficulty with wearing daily contact lenses, OrthoK provides a solution of correcting the vision while sleeping and go around during the day without the burden of trying to keep a contact lens hydrated.

Not wanting to have Lasik surgery done:
Many patients do not want an elective permanent surgical procedure performed on their eyes. This is why we love OrthoK. OrthoK is reversible. If a patient stops wearing the lenses the eye will revert to the pretreatment cornea. This allows us to have options if better treatments arise in the future. A huge advantage of OrthoK over Lasik is the ability to adapt the treatment if normal prescription changes happen over years. Patients prescriptions change over the years and most patient who have had Lasik will either need another surgical procedure or return to glasses and daily contact lenses. With OrthoK, a simple retainer lens redesign can correct the eye to the new prescription.
We have loved seeing the excitement from our patients and hearing the feedback on the freedom they now experience!
Did you know...The Doctor is not just the Doctor but is also a patient:
Dr. Heather Sorensen began OrthoK for herself about 18 years ago for 3 reasons.
She did not want a surgery done to her eyes in case it didn't turn out properly, she was bothered by soft contact lens dryness dryness during the day and she was also an avid water lover and knew it was not safe to wear contact lenses in water. By wearing her OrthoK lenses at night, her eye dryness improved and she could have fun skiing, tubing, and swimming and not worry about causing permanent harm to her eyes. During the years, Dr. Sorensen had normal changes so she simply redesigned her lenses when this happened and was back to seeing perfectly! Dr. Sorensen plans on continuing with OrthoK for her eyes for the rest of her life.
